Original ‘Percy Jackson’ Logan Lerman Praises Newcomer Walker Scobell: “I Can’t Imagine A Better Fit”

Logan Lerman, who played the title character in two Percy Jackson films a decade ago, offered praise and best wishes to the latest actor to take on the role: “I can’t imagine a better fit for Percy Jackson than Walker [Scobell],” Lerman wrote in a note read aloud to Scobell during a podcast featuring the cast and producers of the new Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

The encouraging words came during a live recording of the podcast Happy Sad Confused (watch it below). Host Josh Horowitz was moderating a panel at New York’s 92nd Street Y that included Scobell along with castmates Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, author and producer Rick Riordan and exec producer Becky Riordan when he surprised the guests with Lerman’s missive.

“The show looks amazing,” Lerman wrote. “I can’t wait to see you all crush it in your roles. You’re making a lot of people happy bringing these characters to life. I can’t imagine a better fit for Percy Jackson than Walker. You were so brilliant in The Adam Project. Hope you like eating blue food the next few years because I think you have a hit show on your hands.”

Scobell seemed caught pleasantly off guard by the note, as an understatement, that Lerman’s message “definitely does [feel good] a little bit.” Scobell said he had contacted Lerman after watching Perks of Being a Wallflower. “I really liked it. I thought it was so good I DM’d him.”

In addition to the 2012 Perks, Lerman starred in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief in 2010 and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters in 2013.

The premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will launch on Disney+ and Hulu Dec. 20, with new episodes to be released weekly on Disney+.

Watch the Happy Sad Confused podcast taping below. Lerman’s message comes at the 12:56 mark.
