Oregon's Bootleg Fire, Already Largest in US, Will 'Continue to Grow'

The Bootleg Fire in southern Oregon had grown to over 227,200 acres (about 355 square miles) by July 15, making it the largest in the US, officials reported.

The fire was 7 percent contained as of July 15.

“This fire is going to continue to grow – the extremely dry vegetation and weather are not in our favor,” Joe Hessel, one of the fire’s incident commanders, said on July 15.
