Open to Malaysians: A list of vaccine, quarantine requirements in 16 territories welcoming tourists

·3-min read

Malaysians bitten by the wanderlust bug or missing their families abroad may hop on the next flight out of the country if they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

From today, Malaysians won’t need a permit to travel abroad. Upon returning, they must present a negative result from a COVID-19 test that was taken three days prior and self-isolate at home for 14 days. Foreigners who want to enter Malaysia will still need a permit from local authorities.

Earlier COVID-19 restrictions had required Malaysians looking to travel abroad had to apply for a permit via the MyTravelPass program before their departure, a process that could take up to a week. Inter-state travel also resumed for fully-vaccinated individuals from today.

Although Malaysia is still listed as “high-risk” for COVID-19 in most countries abroad due to its high number of daily infections, it is still possible for Malaysians to visit 16 countries depending on the type of vaccine received.

Malaysia’s COVID-19 infections dipped in the past week while the death rate has been decreasing gradually to 1.16% as of yesterday.
