Online videos show factory protest in central China

STORY: Internet users said the factory belonged to COVID-19 antigen kit maker Zybio and that the unrest was sparked by a dispute over wages and a sudden layoff. Reuters was able to confirm the location of the footage, but was not able to independently confirm the date on which the video was shot, or the content of the dispute.

A person who responded to a phone call to Zybio's headquarters declined to provide immediate comment on Sunday (January 8). Emails to the company were not immediately answered.

After three years, China is opening its border to the world, ending a requirement for incoming travellers to quarantine and dismantling a final pillar of a zero-COVID policy that had shielded its people from the virus but also cut them off from the rest of the world.
