Olympics Fans Say Flavor Flav's VMAs Gift for Jordan Chiles Was "Everything"
Jordan Chiles may have had to return her well-deserved Olympic bronze medal, but Flavor Flav just gave the gymnast something no one can take away from her.
During the 2024 Paris Olympics in August, Jordan's bronze medal win for the individual floor routine event came under review. She initially scored a 13.666, coming in fifth place behind Romanian gymnasts Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea. After her coaches put in an inquiry into the scoring due to the difficulty of Jordan's routine, Jordan's score was changed to reflect the skills she performed, and she placed third.
Jordan accepted the bronze medal alongside Simone Biles for silver and Brazil's Rebeca Andrade for gold. But after the ceremony, Romania submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The CAS ruled in favor of Romania and restored the original scoring, meaning Jordan had to forfeit her medal to Ana.
Fast forward to the 2024 Video Music Awards (VMAs) on September 11, where Jordan and Flavor Flav were on hand to present the Best Collaboration award. The rapper (who is also an official sponsor for the USA Water Polo Women's and Men's National Teams) surprised her with a very special gift. Ahead of announcing the winner, Flavor Flav gave Jordan a diamond-encrusted bronze clock, which he put on her neck as the audience cheered.
"I just want to turn this into a little Olympic moment for a second if ya'll don't mind," Flavor Flav said in a clip posted on MTV's Instagram. "Ay yo Jordan, I know they tried to take your medal away from you, but you know what? I got you something that they can't take away from you."
"And guess what else? I got your prize money too. I just wanted to surprise you with that," he added.
Upon seeing Flavor Flav's sentimental gesture for Jordan, fans couldn't stop applauding him for it all over social media.
"This moment was everything," one person wrote. "@flavorflavofficial is a real one 👏❤️," another penned. "This may have been my favorite moment of the night???" a different follower added.
