Olympic Swimmer Posts Video Debunking Theory That Athletes' Village Beds are 'Anti-Sex'
Competitors staying in the Athletes’ Village at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games have taken to social media to debunk a theory that the cardboard beds they have been given to sleep on are intended to prevent them from having close contact with others.
Paul Chelimo, a track-and-field athlete for the US Olympic team, said on Twitter that the beds were unable to support more than one person to “avoid situations beyond sports.”
However, other athletes posted videos debunking this theory.
This clip, posted on Instagram by Mexican Olympic swimmer Angel Martinez, shows him diving into a dormitory bed.
Irish Olympic gymnast Rhys McClenaghan posted similar footage on Twitter of him jumping on his bed.
“In today’s episode of fake news at the Olympic Games: the beds are anti-sex. They’re made out of cardboard, yes … apparently they’re meant to break at any sudden movements. It’s fake news,” McClenaghan says in the footage.
The official Olympics Twitter account thanked McClenaghan for posting the footage.
