Officials cleared debris in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, as Iota weakened to a tropical storm on Tuesday, November 17, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.
The NHC said Iota made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane along the northeastern coast of Nicaragua on Monday night. Officials said the storm flooded roads and damaged structures throughout several Central American countries, including Honduras, Nicaragua, and Colombia.
The Armed Forces of Honduras said this footage shows its Humanitarian and Rescue Unit working to get a fallen tree off a car in the Miraflores area within Tegucigalpa.
Though Hurricane Iota “rapidly” weakened overnight, the storm could still produce “catastrophic” flash flooding and mudslides across Central America through Thursday, according to the NHC. Credit: Armed Forces of Honduras via Storyful
