- Fixer Upper quickly became a household staple after it premiered on HGTV in 2014.
- Following five successful seasons, Chip and Joanna Gaines decided to end the show in 2018.
- The couple just announced that they are bringing back the show on their brand-new channel, Magnolia Network.
After giving 56 homes their beloved farmhouse treatment, the Gaines' hung up their tool belts in 2018 to focus on expanding their Magnolia brand and family (They welcomed their fifth child in June of that year.). Now, the couple is ready to return to the spotlight, but this time they're doing it on their own terms: The show's new season will be produced by their production company, Blind Nil, and air exclusively on their brand-new channel, Magnolia Network.
Even though the new season of Fixer Upper is still in its beginning stages, here's everything we know so far.
When does the new season of Fixer Upper start?
Like most TV shows and movies right now, it's hard to lock down a specific return date for Fixer Upper given the ongoing health crisis. Still, Chip and Joanna remain confident that the show will premiere in 2021 at the time of Magnolia Network's launch.
What can fans expect from the new season?
Everything Fixer Upper is known for — shiplap, Demo Days, and Chip's funny antics — will be back in the upcoming season. "In a lot of ways, the show is going to pick up right where it left off," Chip wrote in a blog post. "These years in between have taught us a lot about ourselves and how we operate best, so we’re likely to do a few things a little differently this time around."
Magnolia Network shared a two-minute teaser, which shows the couple on the hunt for their first fixer upper of the season:
Is Fixer Upper still casting for the new season?
In short, yes! If you own a home in or near Waco, Texas, then you may be eligible for remodel by Chip and Jo. Fixer Upper also requires you to:
- Be 21 years or older
- Have a $50k minimum renovation budget
- Be willing to to hand over creative control to Chip and Joanna Gaines, their design and construction teams, and Magnolia Network
- Be able to vacate the property during the renovation, which is expected to start in fall 2020

What have Chip and Joanna said about the show's return?
Interestingly enough, Chip shared in a blog post that the couple originally swore off returning to Fixer Upper after they said goodbye in 2018. Then as they started dreaming up the Magnolia Network, "it dawned on us [Chip and Joanna] that we wanted to be a part of this lineup with a new season of Fixer Upper."
To Chip, it's simple: "The thing about Fixer Upper was that we got to do the work we love right alongside all of you. Every week, we could feel you cheering on these families from the other side of the screen. And the point is we’ve missed sharing these stories with you."
Now that the new season is a reality, they "feel like a couple of kids trying our best to keep down a few butterflies." More than anything, they are "just giddy about getting the band back together again so we can share the story of these families and their homes with you."
How can I watch new Fixer Upper episodes on Magnolia Network?
Magnolia Network was originally set to launch on October 4, but it was pushed back due to the pandemic. At this time, details are slim, but we know that Magnolia Network is taking over for the DIY channel in 2021. That means, Magnolia Network should be available on most cable packages or streaming services where DIY is currently available.
While you wait for Magnolia Network to launch next year, you can get a taste of everything that it'll have to offer with a digital series called Road to Launch: Magnolia Network. The series, which will premiere in late summer, gives a behind-the-scenes look at the network, as well as its show roster.
