California man who was attacked by his pit bulls died from “multiple traumatic injuries,” PEOPLE confirms.

Dominic Anthony Cooper, who was believed to have been a pit bull breeder, died as a result of an “accident” from “multiple traumatic injuries,” which were “inflicted by dogs,” according to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s report obtained by PEOPLE.

However, the medical examiner’s report declared his death was “likely multifactorial,” and “no definitive rapidly fatal injury was identified, such as injury to any major vessels or internal organs.”

Factors of his death include “blood loss,” “physical exhaustion from the attack,” and “the possibility of hypothermia.” The report said that “this cannot be concluded with certainty,” and clarified based on the “history, circumstances, and autopsy, as [the medical examiner] currently know them, the manner of death is an accident.”

The 35-year-old man suffered “multiple penetrating [and] traumatic injuries,” including “wounds involving the upper and lower extremities,” per the medical examiner’s report.

Cooper’s “numerous abrasions” ranged from "1/4 to 3/4 inch," and the “round, irregular, linear” abrasions were identified throughout the body, significantly throughout his "extremities and buttock," with “some resembling bite marks.”

Cooper’s body was first discovered in a kennel in his backyard in Compton, Calif., on Feb. 16. There were a total of 13 pit bulls — five adult dogs and eight puppies — in the backyard, per the medical examiner’s report.

Before Cooper was attacked, surveillance footage shows Cooper cleaning his backyard and feeding the dogs on Feb. 15 at approximately 7:05 p.m. local time, PEOPLE previously reported. Within approximately six minutes, he was attacked by the adult dogs near the wire kennel.

“The dogs continued to attack the decedent and tear off his clothes. After approximately 5-6 minutes, the decedent got up from the ground and secured himself into one of the kennels,” per the report. He then moved to the top of a small doghouse, but shortly after, he stood up and fell to the ground and “went unconscious into the supine position.”

He was discovered the next morning by his girlfriend, who called the authorities. After the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department and Animal Control arrived at the scene, Cooper was declared deceased around 8:10 a.m. that morning.
