Officers Find Live Deer in Trunk During Traffic Stop in Pennsylvania

Police officers in York County, Pennsylvania, said they found a live deer in a vehicle’s trunk during a traffic stop around midnight on January 6.

Video shared by the Newberry Township Police Department shows officers surrounding a vehicle pulled over on the Old Trail Road. A passenger from the vehicle then opens the trunk, lifts out a live deer, and releases it.

The occupants of the car told officers they had struck the deer and placed it in the hatchback area before realizing that the deer was still alive, police said.

Police said the 19-year old driver was suspected of “being under the influence of drugs/alcohol” when the officer noticed the live animal in the back of the vehicle and was taken into custody as part of the DUI investigation. Credit: Newberry Township Police Department via Storyful
