Of 136 new COVID cases in Singapore, 29 linked to Jurong Fishery Port and KTVs

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Wednesday (28 July) reported 136 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, taking the country's total case count to 64,589.

There are 130 new locally transmitted infections, of whom three are dormitory residents.

Of 82 linked local cases, 27 are linked to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster while two are linked to the KTV cluster. The two clusters are now linked to 932 and 247 cases, respectively. Forty-eight local cases are unlinked.

Among the cases are three seniors above the age of 70 who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and are at risk of serious illness.

Also detected were six imported infections, of whom two were detected upon arrival here, while the remaining four developed the illness during their stay-home notice or isolation period.

Five new COVID-19 clusters were announced on Wednesday, bringing the total number of active clusters in Singapore to 44.

The new clusters include one linked "Case 66377", which has four cases as well as one linked each to "Case 66435" and "Case 66542", each of which has three cases. The remaining two are linked to bakery Home’s Favourite, linked to six cases, and "Case 66413", linked to four cases.

Separately, 10 local cases are linked to Samy’s Curry Restaurant, which now has 38 cases, while five have been added to the cluster at Marina Bay Sands Casino, now linked to 46 cases. Two new cases have also been added to the Westlite Juniper Dormitory cluster, announced on Tuesday and now linked to 11 infections.

With three new cases, the cluster linked to a cleaner at Punggol Primary School is now linked to seven infections.

Two new cases were also added to the "Case 64697" cluster, now linked to 75 infections. The cluster is linked to residents at Block 639 Rowell Road of whom two had attended lessons at ComfortDelGro’s Ubi driving school and later tested positive for the virus.

Transmission at bakery's office, factory and AMK Ave 10, Clementi Ave 3

The MOH said that epidemiological investigations have found that there is "likely ongoing transmission" of COVID-19 at the office and factory of Home’s Favourite, which occupies two units on the fourth floor of Jurong Food Hub at 15 Jalan Tepong.

The premises will be closed to all members of the public from Thursday to 12 August, while all of its staff members will be placed on quarantine.

In a separate release, the MOH said that 10 cases have been detected in six households at Block 438 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.

Another 10 cases have also been detected in seven households at Block 430 Clementi Avenue 3, and another three in three households at Block 445A Clementi Avenue 3. Most of these cases are linked to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster, the ministry said, adding that epidemiological investigations are ongoing.

Mandatory COVID-19 testing will be conducted for all residents of the three affected blocks with testing optional for those who have tested negative from 24 July onwards.

To detect possible asymptomatic cases in the community, the MOH will conduct voluntary COVID-19 testing for visitors and those who have interacted with these residents between 13 and 27 July.

According to the ministry, the number of new cases in the community has increased from 765 in the week before to 915 in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from 45 in the week before to 217 in the past week.

The ministry added that the seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 99.7 and 31 respectively.

23 require oxygen supplementation; 2 in ICU

A total of 62,663 cases in Singapore, or over 99 per cent of the overall total, have fully recovered from their infection and have been discharged from the hospital.

As of Wednesday, 567 cases are currently warded, most of whom are well and under observation.

There are currently 23 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation and two in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU). One among the 25 cases is fully vaccinated, but requires oxygen supplementation as she has underlying medical conditions, said the MOH.

Among them are also 16 seniors above the age of 60, of whom 15 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, who have fallen very ill, it added.

Apart from the 37 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.

Over the last 28 days, 31 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to the ICU, or died. Of them, 16 are unvaccinated, 13 are partially vaccinated and two are fully vaccinated.

As of Tuesday, 7.31 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme. Some 4.27 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Of some 3.16 million who have completed the full vaccination regimen, 121,014 are individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 and have received at least one dose while the remaining are those who have received two doses.

The MOH guidelines state that recovered individuals – who are likely to have a strong immune response against COVID-19 within the first six months after their infection – are recommended to receive a single dose of vaccine to further boost their immunity against the disease.

Those who have received the Sinovac's CoronaVac vaccine locally are not included in Singapore's national vaccination numbers. As of Tuesday, 91,712 doses of the China-made vaccine have been administered to 70,712 individuals.
