OBSBOT Tiny 2 Lite Review

OBSBOT Tiny 2 Lite Review

The OBSBOT Tiny 2 Lite is aimed at those who want to push their webcam quality and functionality to the next level, without breaking the bank. While the original Tiny 2 impressed me, the $329 price tag kept it out of reach for many users. With the Lite, OBSBOT is trickling down many of the features that made the premium variant so great while offering them at a much lower price. For $179, is the Tiny 2 Lite worth buying? Here is my review.

Not as ‘Lite’ as you might expect

Though “Lite,” the OBSBOT Tiny 2 Lite packs in plenty of impressive specs. I was surprised to see 4K support, but it’s here with the 1/ 2” CMOS sensor responsible for the crisp output. It’s not as large as the original Tiny 2, but its low-light performance is still impressive.

The Tiny 2 Lite’s default look is significantly more contrasty than the Tiny 2. The more expensive variant opts for bringing out more detail in the darker parts of the image, while the Lite crushes the blacks a little more, losing detail but making for an overall richer and more pleasing image. It’s interesting to compare the Tiny 2 to the Tiny 2 Lite with their default settings, though users can obviously go in and tweak them to their liking.

Auto features are here

It might be “Lite,” but the OBSBOT Tiny 2 Lite also boasts the same Auto Tracking and Auto Zoom features that make its bigger brother so unique. For those who want to move around the frame and remain in the shot, Auto Tracking can be a game-changer. This is ideal for those in larger spaces who need to move between areas while staying in the shot.

Additionally, the Tiny 2 Lite also supports Gesture Control 2.0, which uses hand gestures to achieve different functions, like switching tracking on and off as well as zooming in.

A winning combination

Those without a dedicated microphone will be happy to know that the Tiny 2 Lite also has dual omnidirectional mics. These work fine, though the audio quality doesn’t quite match that of the video. If audio is a big deal for you, I’d still be looking for a dedicated solution. A wireless lavalier mic will likely be your best option when moving around.

Recording with the OBSBOT Tiny 2 Lite is super simple and the output, even with stock settings, is fantastic. Even if you don’t take advantage of the tracking and gesture controls, the quality of the 4K image may justify the purchase on its own.

The Tiny 2 Lite has a narrower field of view than the more expensive model, though I didn’t find the tighter framing to be an issue. It is also less capable in dimly lit environments.

Final Verdict

At $179, the OBSBOT Tiny 2 Lite presents a strong option for those wanting to upgrade their webcam without spending too much money. It retains many of the appealing features of its higher-priced counterpart, such as 4K support and solid low-light performance. The Auto Tracking and Gesture Control add convenience, while the dual mics offer decent audio quality. Though not as advanced as the original Tiny 2, the Lite version still delivers a rich and satisfying image. For its price, it offers a good balance of quality and functionality, and it’s now my go-to recommendation for this type of product.
