‘Nun II’ Sets Max Debut Before Halloween
New Line’s The Nun II, one of the few bright spots at the fall box office rocked by the actors strikes, will hit Max on Oct. 27. That premiere date is after the pic’s 50-day theatrical window.
The Michael Chaves directed sequel in the Conjuring universe opened to $32.6M and through yesterday counts $84.4M at the domestic box office and over $258M worldwide. The movie ruled the top of the box office for three weekends in a row and returned Warner Bros to the post-Labor Day horror launchpad they first made rich with the 2017 feature take of Stephen King’s It ($123.4M opening, $328.8M domestic B.O.).

The movie follows young Sister Irene’s (Taissa Farmiga) crusade against a sinister, evil Mother Superior spirit, aka Valak, who takes over the souls of people around her. Set in 1956 France, the pic picks up after The Nun when Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) becomes possessed. Storm Reid also stars.

A Conjuring universe Max series was announced before the WGA strike earlier this year. The series will continue the story established in the feature films surrounding paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren (Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson). Atomic Monster maestro and Conjuring architect, James Wan, who directed both The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, was in talks at the time to executive produce.
Other movies that launched in the post Labor Day frame for Warner Bros were It Chapter: Two and the first Nun, which back in 2018, which reps the highest grossing Conjuring movie ever at $366M worldwide.
