Numerous Drivers Pretend to Break Down, Blocking Roads in Yangon Protest

As marching anti-military protesters blocked streets in Yangon on February 17, pro-democracy drivers were seen doing the same, after a campaign on Facebook urged them to leave their cars in the street with the hoods up, pretending to be broken down.

The campaign was dubbed “Car, don’t break down!” by organizers, one report said.

A participant told Frontier Myanmar, “We will block the road the whole day so that people can’t go to work. We must win this war.”

As mass protests against the military takeover in Myanmar continued, the trial of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi started on Tuesday. She faces a new charge under the country’s natural disaster management law. Credit: @tt9905770454 via Storyful
