STORY: LeBron James has signed a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, ESPN reports

His agent says the $97.1 million deal includes an extension option for another year through the 2024-25 season

James had been in the final season of his current deal, worth $44.5 million

The contract will see James overtake Kevin Durant as the highest-earning player in NBA history

His total career guaranteed money: $532 million

James averaged 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game last season, injuries limiting him to 56 games

The four-time NBA champion and MVP turns 38 in December

James has said he intends to stay with the Lakers for as long as he can play
