You Can Now Register to Vote at Saks Fifth Avenue
Window shopping has never been more civically essential. Saks Fifth Avenue has announced that beginning today, September 22 (National Voter Registration Day), the windows of its New York City flagship store will showcase important moments in U.S. voting history. The display is part of the brand's "Register to Vote at Saks" campaign to educate voters about their own eligibility and how to get involved ahead of the November 3 election. Inside the store and online, people can register to vote, apply for an absentee ballot, and check their registration status through October 9.
Saks has partnered with nonprofits HeadCount and Vote.org for its GOTV initiative. Nonpartisan representatives from HeadCount will be available on the second floor of the Saks Fifth Ave location to answer questions about voting and the registration process. "While we have a longstanding history of platforming a number of meaningful causes, using our influence to drive home the importance of voting and encouraging our communities to take action is first," Emily Esser, chief marketing officer of Saks, said in a statement. "We are pleased to be a part of a movement that inspires Americans to get involved and make their voices heard."
Those wandering by the Saks flagship store will see "VOTE" branded on its center six windows. Each pane will also highlight a landmark moment in the history of U.S. voting. Events include the passage of 1919's 19th amendment granting white women the right to vote, 1965's Voting Rights Act affording people of color the right to vote, 1971's 26th amendment lowering the voting age to 18, and 1990's Americans With Disabilities Act ensuring all polling stations are accessible for those who are differently abled.
People who don't live near the Fifth Ave location can still register and request an absentee ballot online. If you're under 18, there's even a place to pledge future registration and receive a text from Saks on your 18th birthday with voting info.
Saks Fifth Avenue is also making Election Day a holiday for its corporate employees and ensuring essential workers have ample time to vote during store hours. She'll be demonstrating the in-store registration process and providing additional voting resources.
Both the Saks Fifth Avenue window displays and voting center will be available now through October 9.
