Norwegian esports organisation Heroic announced its entry into the Dota 2 competitive scene on Friday (5 January) with a roster headlined by Peruvian stars Héctor "K1" Rodriguez and Elvis "Scofield" Peña.

K1 and Scofield are two of the most decorated players from South America and have been teammates since 2019, having played under the banners of Infamous and Beastcoast.

K1 left Beastcoast last June for a short stint with North American org Nouns Esports and managed a Top 8 finish at The International (TI) 2023 last October. Meanwhile, Scofield left Beastcoast shortly after TI 2023 after they bombed out in 17th-20th place.

Rounding out the rest of Heroic's roster are Brazilian players João "4nalog" Giannini and Matheus "KJ" Diniz as well as Belgian player Cedric "Davai Lama" Deckmyn.

K1 will be the team's carry player, 4nalog will be the midlaner, Davai Lama will be the offlaner, Scofield will be the position 4 support, while KJ will be both captain and the position 5 support. Igor "kaffs" Furtado has also been listed as the team's coach.

While Heroic is based in Europe, its primarily South American Dota 2 team will continue to compete in their home region. They are set to make their debut in the combined North and South American qualifier for BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024 from 7 to 10 January.

Heroic is known most for its Counter-Strike team, being one of the top teams in the game's heartland in Europe with its primarily Danish rosters. Aside from Counter-Strike and Dota 2, Heroic also competes in Rainbow Six, PUBG, and sim racing.

With its strong roots in the Nordic countries and Europe, Heroic's decision to enter Dota 2 with a South American roster is certainly an intriguing one.

Despite the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) coming to an end last year and no clear plans from developer Valve Software for the 2024 season announced yet, Heroic is now the latest high-profile organisation to enter the Dota 2 scene over the offseason.

Last November, Saudi Arabia's Team Falcons entered the scene with a star-studded international roster that featured TI 2022 champions Oliver "skiter" Lepko and Wu "Sneyking" Jingjun. In December, global esports brand G2 Esports also entered Dota 2 by joining forces with Chinese organisation Invictus Gaming to form the G2.iG team.
