Noraniza Idris: It's Melaka heritage, not a Chinese New Year poster!

11 Jul - Noraniza Idris is dismissing the idea that her Qalam concert poster looks like a Chinese New Year poster, after unveiling it for the first time recently.

The singer, who will be performing at the Panggung Bangsawan, Melaka this September, stated that the poster was inspired by one of the cultures from the state and that the traditional costume she wore was out of respect for Melaka's heritage.

"It's Melaka. The people in Melaka wear sanggul lintang. Don't you know that? Melaka has their own culture, so when we go to Melaka, we practice the culture," she said.

As for the pose she made on the poster, Noraniza, known as Kak Ani among fans, said that her hands are shaped that way as she was holding the keris.

"If it looks like it has Chinese elements, it is because Melaka has a huge Chinese influence, from Dondang Sayang, Baba Nyonya. If we look at the buildings in Melaka, they all have similar influences. Fans have to understand and study history," she said.

Meanwhile, the upcoming concert will be held from 27 to 29 September.
