KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad has added another feather to her political career with her appointment as Higher Education Minister in the new Cabinet line-up announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin hari ini.
She was the first woman appointed as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to inspect and monitor the management and administration of the country’s finances.
Her appointment on April 11 last year was to take over from Beluran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee.
Her involvement in the country’s political arena for about 35 years has made her into a tough woman who dared speak her voice.
Since she became head of Wanita UMNO on June 24, 2018, she has also fought for issues linked to women.
Noraini who is also Parit Sulong Member of Parliament has also stressed on entrepreneurship and rural development.

She began her political career in 1985 as member of Wanita UMNO and in 2001, was appointed assistant secretary of the newly-formed Puteri UMNO.
In 2002, she was uncontested for the post of vice head of Puteri Umno, and also for the post of Puteri Head on Sept 22, 2004, taking over from Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said who reached 40 years of age in December 2003, which was the age limit for Puteri UMNO.
Born in Parit Sulong, Noraini is the incumbent for the Parit Sulong parliamentary seat for three consecutive terms from the 12th general election in March 2008, the 13th general election in May 2013 and the 14th general election in May 2018.
