KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said he has not been informed if he will contest the upcoming state elections.

Despite that, he vowed to stay with his party PAS and will leave the candidacy selection for the upcoming state elections in six states to the party’s leadership.

“It’s a matter for the leadership and I’ll leave it to them to decide. I am not sure if I will be nominated or not. Either way, I accept the decision.

“I am a PAS member and will stand by the party,” he was quoted saying in Malay daily Berita Harian.

Previously, rumours were swirling that Nik Abduh, the son of the late former Kelantan Menteri Besar and PAS supreme leader Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, was being sidelined because PAS leadership refused to divulge if he would be a candidate for the state elections.

Some said the party was trying to subdue or eradicate his father’s legacy.

When asked if this was true, he said: “My father’s legacy was one of fighting for Islamic rights and defending the state government, not being a candidate,” he said.

The state elections are expected to take place in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah sometime in August.
