Nicole Kidman Admits the Met Gala Still Makes Her Nervous, but Her 'Man' Keith Urban Brings the Calm (Exclusive)

The couple made a glam appearance — both in Balenciaga — at this year's event

Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman are two peas in a pod.

The lovey-dovey pair walked the red carpet hand-in-hand and happily posed for photos at the 2024 Met Gala on May 6 while fully paying tribute to the dress code “The Garden of Time." The pair also balanced each other out — because Kidman revealed to PEOPLE just ahead of the big event that fashion's biggest night still gives her butterflies.

As the two exited their hotel, Kidman told PEOPLE that she still gets nervous before the Met Gala — even though she's been several times. However, it's always easier with her husband by her side.

"I have my man with me," she said, reaching for the country singer, who was standing nearby.

The Australian actress, 56, looked dazzling in a custom-made Balenciaga reinterpretation of a 1950s Cristóbal Balenciaga Couture evening gown. The dress featured a white double silk satin bustier with tail worn over a long-flared skirt with hand-frayed organza and feather-like embroidery, and she wore it with white opera gloves. Her long blonde hair, styled by Adir Abergel, was worn in an effortless straight style.

Meanwhile, Urban, also 56, matched his wife in Balenciaga, wearing a black single-breasted jacket with straight-leg pants. He accessorized with a bow tie and cummerbund in black satin and black shoes.

The couple held hands as they ascended the steps together, Urban sweetly helping his wife stay balanced as she posed for photos.

At the 2023 Met Gala, Kidman donned the exact pink tulle gown that she wore when she starred in a 2004 Chanel No. 5 ad directed by Baz Luhrmann.

"This dress was worn in the Chanel No. 5 commercial that Baz Luhrmann and I did with Karl [Lagerfeld], who concocted this out of his head," Kidman told La La Anthony on the red carpet.

"I suppose the way these these couture gowns last is because of their exquisiteness," she added of the vintage dress. "If you take care of them and love them, they are timeless."

"To be able to wear the same thing 20 years later and it still holds ... There's whimsy to it," Kidman continued. "It's a feather and it's unbelievably comfortable, but it's all handmade, it's couture and that's what it should be."

The night's event was dedicated to fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who helmed Chanel for many years before his death in 2019. He also famously designed at Balmain, Patou and Chloé.

That year, Urban kept it classic in a black-and-white tuxedo. He accessorized with a white boutonnière and multiple rings on his fingers.

The couple previously attended the 2016 Met Gala, where she wowed in an astrological-themed dress by Alexander McQueen during the event, with a theme that year of "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology."

This year's Met Gala comes on the heels of Kidman's huge honor at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala. To receive the prestigious award, she wore a glittering gold custom Balenciaga gown and was joined by her whole family for the night, including daughters Sunday Rose, 15, and Faith Margaret, 13.

Her long, strawberry blonde hair was styled in a side part with loose waves framing her face and she opted for elegant glam, with a gentle smokey eye, rose blush and a soft pink lip.
