Nicole Kidman's portrayal of Lucille Ball in the upcoming film "Being the Ricardos" has left fans divided.

On Wednesday, Amazon Prime Video unveiled the first trailer for the highly anticipated film by Aaron Sorkin. The film follows a "crisis" in Ball and Arnaz's marriage, with Kidman co-starring alongside fellow Oscar-winner Javier Bardem

While news of Kidman's casting initially drew skepticism, the trailer did little to bridge the gap between those who are for and against the Australian taking on the role of the iconic TV actress.

Although Kidman barely spoke in the trailer, some people took issue with her American accent.

"She sounds like every single character he’s ever played when she needed to put on an American accent," Debra Messing would’ve been perfect."

"I'm upset I watched this trailer," another added. "She is not playing Lucy at all. She is playing a redhead. This looks terrible."

While others admitted they were "skeptical" of Kidman's ability to take on the role, others argued that her co-star, Bardem, was miscast and "too old" for the role.

"Javier Bardem is entirely too old (at 52) to be playing Desi Arnaz during this period," someone tweeted. "Desi was just 34 yrs old at ["I Love Lucy's"] inception and only 40 years old by series end. Also, Javier resembles 'Ricky' about as much as Nicole Kidman resembles 'Lucy.'"

The harsh criticism was met with plenty of others who thought Kidman was an "unexpectedly" good fit "after all."

"Nicole as Lucille... she nailed it," someone commented via Instagram. "Nicole making history! Yes!"

"Good god I love Nicole Kidman," another wrote. "Nicole is gonna get her fifth Oscar nod."

"I dig Nicole Kidman being cast as Lucille Ball," one person wrote. "Debra Messing is too easy because she looks like Ms. Ball. For me, it’s less about look-a-likes and more about playing the role well. Denzel looked nothing like Malcolm X but he brought the heat with that role."

The first look at the 54-year-old Australian actress in costume surfaced back in April, and immediately sparked controversy online, with concern over Kidman and Bardem being "ill-fitted" for their roles.

In February, the film's creator, Aaron Sorkin, defended the film's casting choice in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, assuring fans that Kidman and Bardem are the right people for the job.

"I think that the people thought that we've cast them as Lucy and Ricky Ricardo," Sorkin said. "The film takes place during a production week of 'I Love Lucy' — a Monday table read to Friday audience taping, with a whole bunch of long flashbacks which are telling the story that got us here — and because there's a table read, there are rehearsals and then there's tape night, we do see moments of them being Lucy and Ricky Ricardo. We see moments from an episode of 'I Love Lucy.' But mostly they are playing Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. And they're going to be fantastic...These are two of the greatest actors ever."
