KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming said specialists from Singapore’s Housing Development Board (HDB) will visit Malaysia by end of March.

Nga said his ministry is open to learning from any agency or specialists as the insight gained would benefit Malaysia.

“I hope the specialists from HDB will come over next month and share with us their experiences and we can have a more comprehensive housing planning for our people,” said Nga in a press conference after officiating Sri Petaling Fire and Rescue Station here.

The Teluk Intan MP said he has repeatedly justified engaging the Singaporean agency about Malaysia’s housing situation, adding that he also planned to meet similar experts from other countries.

“Why do we need to develop a “phobia” towards HDB? What’s wrong with them?

“I will emphasise again that the unity government always takes lifelong learning attitude to learn from whichever party or country as long as they can bring benefits to our people,

“We want to have world-class housing for our people,” he added.

Last Thursday, Nga said in Parliament that Malaysia’s housing issues were shared with external parties only with the intention of developing more comprehensive and practical policies and actions for the country.

He was responding to a question from Perikatan Nasional’s Setiu MP Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir about the rationale of bringing in Singaporean housing experts instead of utilising local urban planning experts who are already available.
