Jaguars WR DJ Chark ruled out for season with fractured ankle, Urban Meyer says
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver D.J. Chark is out for the rest of the season with a fractured ankle, head coach Urban Meyer said on Monday.
Chark was ruled out indefinitely with the injury suffered in Week 4. He left the game against the Cincinnati Bengals on the opening drive after multiple players landed on the back of his leg. He was blocking for James Robinson on the play.
His left leg twisted under the weight of other players and he remained on the turf until being taken to the locker room on a cart. He was placed on injured reserve, making a return this season a possibility, but Meyer's announcement rules that out entirely.
Chark, 25, is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason as he's on he final year of his rookie contract. He was the Jaguars' second-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft out of LSU and after a rough rookie campaign was named to the Pro Bowl in 2019. In three games this season he had seven catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns. He missed a month of training camp after surgery to repair a broken finger on his right hand.
Meyer credited Jamal Agnew for stepping up in Chark's absence and called him "our best separator." Marvin Jones Jr. and Laviska Shenault Jr. lead the Jaguars in receiving yards with rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence at the helm. The Jaguars are 1-5 and coming off an open week. Their first and only win was a 23-20 win against the Miami Dolphins in London the week prior.
