Tottenham Hotspur have identified Vincent Kompany as a candidate to become their next manager, according to a report revealing his stance on the links.

After parting company with Antonio Conte, Tottenham are searching for a new head coach. Until they can find someone, Cristian Stellini is in charge of first-team matters, with support from Ryan Mason.

In the bigger picture, Tottenham are trying to appoint someone like Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann or Luis Enrique.

But according to The Sun, another “leading contender” for the role is Kompany, who is currently building his reputation as a manager with Burnley.

The former Manchester City captain has also previously led Anderlecht and is now on the verge of securing promotion to the Premier League with the Clarets.

Yet he might have a chance to manage in the top flight with an even bigger club. According to The Sun, he would be open to taking the Tottenham job.

That said, it seems unlikely he would leave Burnley before the end of the season, especially with how close they are to the Championship title. Further ahead, though, he might be an option for Tottenham if they are willing to wait.

Due to turn 37 in April, Kompany is younger than any other manager currently in the Premier League.

He stood out in a leadership role as Man City’s captain and is already proving he can lead from the other side of the touchline, too.

His attractive brand of football has supposedly caught Daniel Levy’s attention. Now, Tottenham might consider trying to prise him away from Burnley, where his contract is due to last until 2025.

However, Kompany has also hinted at trying to take Burnley as far as he can in a recent interview with Sky Sports.

The Belgian tactician said: “The way I am as a person, my starting point is: ‘Okay, where can this place go?’. You know, because everybody is talking about our limits, but we are the only ones who can judge our own limits I think.

“So, my first thing is where this place can go and that consumes my every moment. So, as much as I love the club – I want to show an example – when we left Manchester City, I love the club. But, my first thought is not like: ‘Oh, it’d be nice to…’. My first thought is how we can close the gap.

“I think that is my job as a manager. Is there something impossible that’s being done over there? Or is it something possible for us? That’s my job.

“That’s what I do and that’s the only thing that bothers me. And the rest? I don’t know. I think, in football, when you find a good place – it’s worth really protecting that.”

Kompany’s Burnley are playing against Sunderland in the Championship on Friday night. Tottenham, meanwhile, have their first game since Conte’s exit on Monday, when they visit Everton for a Premier League match.
