Newport Police and Firefighters Help World War II Veteran Celebrate 98th Birthday

Police and firefighters in Newport, Oregon, marked a World War II veteran’s 98th birthday with a drive-by parade.

Footage released by Newport Police Department on November 9 shows fire trucks and police cruisers drive past Jim Winebrenner, who was a waist gunner in the US Army Air Corps.

The video concludes with a police officer presenting Winebrenner with a gift.

“We were pleased to be invited to surprise Mr Jim Winebrenner, who turned 98 years young last Thursday. Mr Winebrenner is a veteran of WWII, having served as a waist gunner in the U.S. Army Air Corps,” the police department said. Credit: Newport Police Department via Storyful
