Newport Beach Protesters Scatter as Car Drives Through Group, Narrowly Missing Young Child

The alleged driver of a Mini Cooper that careened through a group of protesters marching in Newport Beach, California, on 3 June, narrowly avoiding a young child on a bike, was reportedly charged over the incident.

This video captures the moment the car ran through the peaceful march, causing protesters to scatter. The car reportedly made contact with one bicycle but no one was injured in the incident, and a local man was subsequently arrested and charged.

The Black Lives Matter protest followed the police-involved death of George Floyd in Minneapolis more than a week earlier, which sparked sometimes violent rallies across the United States. Credit: @Surflick via Storyful
