Newell Fire Burns on Hill in San Francisco Bay Area

The newly ignited Newell Fire burned along a hill in American Canyon, California – in the Bay Area – on Monday, October 11. Authorities said they suspected the blaze may have been started by a burning car.

The fire was reported near the Newell Open Space Preserve around 6:30 pm on October 11, local media reported.

Authorities said a burning, stolen car may have sparked the fire, media reported. Napa County Sheriff’s deputies detained a 26-year-old man with burn injuries found near the car.

An evacuation warning was issued for the area, which was later lifted.
