According to reports, Newcastle United have ‘submitted’ an £18m bid to their Premier League rivals Leeds United in an attempt to sign Jack Harrison.
The Englishman had spells at Liverpool and Manchester United as an academy player before he relocated to the United States.
Harrison made his debut in senior football with MLS outfit New York City FC. He netted ten league goals during the 2017 campaign before he signed for Manchester City.
After a brief spell at Middlesbrough, Harrison joined Leeds United on loan ahead of the 2018/19 season.
After three successful years on loan at Elland Road, Leeds made his move permanent last summer for a fee of around £11m.
The winger performed well last term, as he netted eight goals for the West Yorkshire outfit in the Premier League.
Newcastle United have been linked with him in recent months. Football Insider are now reporting that Eddie Howe’s side have lodged an £18m bid for Harrison.
Leeds have already sold Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha for significant fees this summer. Earlier this week, Harrison said “we’ll see” when asked if he will leave the club.
Jesse Marsch has now responded to these comments, suggesting that Harrison’s “intention” is to remain at Leeds:
“Jack unintentionally brought attention to the whole situation because, for sure, his intention is to be with us,” said Marsch (via Leeds Live).
“Even when I mentioned about [how] we listen to lots of offers for lots of players, that’s the reality of what our business is.
“There’s always interest in our players because we have quality players. We’re in the top league in the world, but we feel strongly the guys we have within our group right now can help us be really successful and Jack is certainly one of those.
“Jack really didn’t mean to bring any attention to it and I’m sure he’ll have his chance to give his side of things, but I know he’s happy here. I know he loves playing for the club and he and I have a great relationship, and he knows how important I think he is to what we’re doing here in the future.”
