Newcastle, Leicester, Wolves ready to pounce on major bargain opportunity with Bundesliga ‘leader’ available on free transfer
Union Berlin midfielder Rani Khedira has reportedly attracted interest from Newcastle, Leicester and Wolves ahead of a potential summer switch to the Premier League.
The 29-year-old is expected to be available on a free transfer after refusing to pen a contract extension with the German club, so he would be a major bargain for whoever comes out on top for his signature.
Indeed, Khedira has been one of Union’s top performers this term, with his team currently sitting in fourth place in the Bundesliga table, so it’s unsurprising to see the interest.
This is according to German outlet SPORTBild, who claim that the midfielder looks likely to make the move to England amid interest from the Premier League trio.
The report explains that Khedira has ‘developed into a leader’ at Union, especially in the current campaign where they have massively overperformed and have been challenging for the league title.
As mentioned, the German international has so far declined to sign a contract extension amid speculation surrounding his future, so a departure is looking increasingly likely.
There is no mention of whether any English club has made an official approach for Khedira yet, but Newcastle, Leicester and Wolves are thought to be leading the race.

Three-way battle for ‘leader’ Khedira
Eddie Howe’s midfield trio of Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff has been one of the key reasons Newcastle have been so impressive this season.
However, it seems the English coach is still looking to bolster that area ahead of next season, with the Tynesiders linked with several centre-mids in recent weeks.
Khedira is a versatile player, generally operating as a defensive midfielder, but he also has the ability to play as a centre-back on occasion too, so he could provide cover in a number of positions for Howe.
As for Leicester, it seems almost certain that they will lose Youri Tielemans at the end of the season, so signing Union’s number eight could prove to be a very smart move from Brendan Rodgers.
The Foxes have struggled to maintain form this term, currently sitting in a disappointing 16th place in the Premier League table, so signing Khedira would definitely be a step in the right direction.
Similarly, Wolves are also in the midst of a relegation battle after winning just seven games this season.
Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with a move for Wolves’ captain Ruben Neves recently, so Julen Lopetegui may look to replace him with Khedira.
Newcastle are likely to be the midfielder’s preferred choice of the trio this summer, with them looking likely to be competing in Europe next summer.
With that in mind, Leicester and Wolves may have to offer Khedira a substantial contract offer to convince him to snub the Tynesiders.
