Chef Andrew Zimmern knows a thing or two about food...and off-the-beaten grub at that. He first broke out in 2016 with Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, on the Travel Channel. He took us on quite the culinary ride, from experiencing top-to-tail tuna in Tokyo to enjoying three 3-star Michelin Star restaurants in one day in Paris to "savoring" an exotic tarantula dish in New York City.
Since then, he's continued to blaze a trail. He founded Intuitive Content, a TV and digital production company, debuted the MSNBC series What’s Eating America and the Magnolia Network's Family Dinner. And this year, Andrew Zimmern’s Wild Game Kitchen premiered on the Outdoor Channel, with episodes focused on venison, bison, rabbit and other gamey delights.
Zimmern recently took time out of his busy schedule sampling delicious fare to sit down and talk us through his Father's Day wish list, from kitchen essentials to everyday necessities and more!
Chef Sofi 5 Cup Mortar and Pestle Set
"I can't live in the kitchen without a big mortar and pestle," confesses Zimmern. "If you're going to be crushing half a cup of peanuts, or grinding a cup of chilis, you need a big mortar and pestle!" The chef recommends the Chef Sofi 5 Cup Mortar and Pestle Set for the most bang for your buck; it holds five cups, so you have plenty of room to grind, crush, mash or muddle just about any ingredient.
Made from unpolished granite, the natural friction is great for swift ingredient crushing, grinding or powdering, helping you save time and sweat in the kitchen.

Kershaw Leek Pocket Knife
"This is my everyday carry pocket knife," shares Zimmern. Showing off his Kershaw Leek Pocket Knife, he adds: "It can attach to the pocket of my jeans...once you start carrying a pocket knife, you will find 500 reasons to use it every single day."
The trusty little helper enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment, and it's super durable — no replacing this baby anytime soon!
Fly by Jing Triple Threat Trio of Sauces
When a chef recommends a food product, you know it has to be good — so our ears perked up when he raved about the Fly by Jing Triple Threat Trio of Sauces. "My favorite new food company [is Fly by Jing]," says Zimmern. He swears by this "triple threat trio", which contains some of the company's "good on everything" sauces. "[They contain] super-premium spices, carefully sourced in the mountains and countrysides of of China...just incredible stuff!"
Of the Mala Spice Mix in particular, Zimmern says: "You get all of the impact of 5,000 years of great Chinese cookery in one little jar."
Not a bad deal, considering it's only $45 for three!
La Caja China Roasting Box
Planning a rib or even pig roast for your Father's Day celebration? Get ahead of the game by grabbing a roasting box that can handle even the most intensive grill-ups! Zimmern showed off his own La Caja China Roasting Box during our interview. "You [can] roast in there for as many as 9, 10, 11 hours!" he says.
Even if you're roasting for a long time, indirect charcoal heat on top keeps meat moist. The spacious wooden box is lined with marine-grade aluminum and equipped with two steel chrome meat racks, with enough room to organize and perfectly cook up to 10 whole chickens, three turkeys, six pork shoulders, six pork ribs slabs or a full 40-pound live weight pig inside. Holy moly!
Yoshikawa Black Steel Beijing Wok
"I love a wok, even if you don't cook Asian food," reveals Zimmern. "It's essentially a 20-inch skillet with curved edges, so it holds the heat on the sides as much as it does in the center...you can put everything together and create an epic Father's Day dinner."
His favorite model is the sharp-looking Yoshikawa Black Steel Beijing Wok, which features a black steel, rust-resistant, anti-stick surface and removable wooden handle.
