Netflix's The Trial of the Chicago 7 confirmed for cinema release with new trailer

Netflix has confirmed that The Trial of the Chicago 7 will be have a limited cinema release alongside streaming on the platform.

The anticipated Aaron Sorkin drama, which tells the true story of seven activists who were charged with conspiracy and inciting to riot by the US government following protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention, has just been given a brand new trailer.

In it, we get a close look at the heated courtroom scenes, alongside repeated echoes of the phrase "the whole world is watching".

The story's trial came about after the protests, which were originally intended to be peaceful, escalated, with organisers arrested after protesters clashed with police and the National Guard.

Netflix also confirmed that the movie will be shown in select cinemas from October 16 while also being simultaneously released on the streaming site.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 was originally intended for a cinema release, though eventually skipped that plan and was bought by Netflix for streaming due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The movie already boasts an impressive cast including Eddie Redmayne, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jeremy Strong, Mark Rylance and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Kelvin Harrison Jr, Frank Langella, William Hurt, Michael Keaton and John Carroll Lynch also star.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 will be released on Netflix globally and in select cinemas on October 16.
