Crime movie Wasp Network has landed streaming service Netflix in hot water.

According to Variety, Ana Margarita Martinez (a Cuban exile whose story forms the basis of the film) filed a suit in federal court this week, in part because she believes Ana De Armas' "party girl" portrayal of her was defamatory.

The complaint argues that Armas is "known for playing roles where she is nude and in sex scenes" and her involvement allegedly supports the false narrative that Martinez engaged in "sexually immoral or unchaste conduct".

Martinez first fled her home country as a kid back in the '60s. She married fellow Cuban exile Juan Pablo Roque before discovering he'd been one of Fidel Castro's spies all along. He left her in 1996 and she hasn't seen him since.

The complaint goes on to suggest that Martinez was incorrectly shown as living a "lavish lifestyle paid for by drug money and terrorist activities", while she claims she was a hard-working mother.

"Defendants are wilfully damaging Ms Martinez's name and reputation while re-traumatising her by bringing to fore events of the past that significantly disrupted the course of her life," it adds.

Elsewhere, the suit accuses Wasp Network of leaving many events out of the story, and including a "Godfather-style" wedding scene that never happened in reality.
