Great news, cheesy Christmas film fans. Netflix has shared the first look pictures of Vanessa Hudgens in The Princess Switch sequel, and we couldn’t be more excited.
The original film starred Vanessa Hudgens as both the hugely privileged and well-spoken Lady Margaret Delacourt and girl-next-door baker Stacy De Novo. When the pair’s paths crossed à la The Parent Trap, their lives changed forever and we got the most excellent festive rom-com.
In the new film, The Princess Switch: Switched Again, V-Hudge will of course be back, and this time it will follow Margaret as she "unexpectedly inherits the throne and hits a rough patch with Kevin so it’s up to Stacy to save the day before a new lookalike - party girl Fiona - foils their plans". It sounds all kinds of amazing, right?
As for "party girl Fiona", we now know that the character will also be played by Vanessa after she previously hinted she liked the idea of a third lookalike.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the film and her multiple roles, Vanessa said, "After I read it I thought, 'Ooh man, this is going to be a lot of work. Three of me? Me, myself, and I! I was very excited to create yet another character and had such a blast doing so. I was told they wrote in a new character but I had no idea how much fun it would actually be."
Meanwhile, the official film synopsis adds that "the course of true love is complicated by the appearance of a handsome royal who's intent on stealing Margaret's heart. Throw in the unexpected arrival of Margaret's outrageous party girl cousin Fiona, a third lookalike who has ambitions of her own, and you have the recipe for Christmas triple trouble!"
In more exciting Christmas feel-good film news, Netflix also confirmed there's a third Princess Switch movie on the way, with production due to start in Scotland later this year. You can expect that one to drop just in time for Christmas 2021.
Princess Switch 2 is due to hit Netflix on November 19th - we’re already counting down the days.
