KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 — Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece sailed to the top of streaming service's global charts, debuting in the list with 18.5 million “views” and 140 million hours viewed over its first four days of release.

It's 18.5 million views may not be nearly as strong a start as many of Netflix’s more recent series, such as Wednesday which boasted 341.23 million in Nov 2022 which would translate to 43 million views, One Piece debuted midweek on Aug 31, and the numbers account for the period Aug 28 to Sept. 3.

The shift in Netflix’s numbers reporting which changed in June, now ranks its Top 10 list by “views”, a metric determined by number of hours viewed divided by the total runtime of the film or episode, with the goal of not giving too much of an advantage to movies and TV shows with longer runtimes.

One Piece currently sits in the the Top 10 list in 93 countries, holding the top spot for 46 including Malaysia.

It is certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 84 per cent score by critics and a whopping 96per cent by audiences, and 8.5/10 on IMDB.

Netflix meanwhile has released a behind the scenes stunts featurette, while Shueisha is offering all 12 columes encompassing the entire East Blue saga brought to life in the live-action in 21 different languages here.

Since its release in 1997, One Piece has become the best-selling manga series in history.

As of August 2022, it had sold over 516.6 million copies in 61 countries and regions worldwide.
