'Neither Macron nor Le Pen': Protesters Clash With Paris Police Ahead of Presidential Runoff

Protesters clashed with police in Paris on Saturday, April 16, amid anti far-right demonstrations ahead of the French presidential runoff next week.

French media reported that while demonstrations were mostly in opposition to far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, some protesters carried signs and chanted slogans critical of incumbent president Emmanuel Macron.

This footage by Nicolas Mercier shows large crowds chanting as they march toward the Place de la Republique with an array of banners and signs, including a placard that reads, “Neither Macron nor Le Pen.” Later, in the square, police in riot gear can be seen chasing and detaining people as glass bottles are thrown.
