Neighbours star Georgie Stone has said she is "honoured" to have received a medal of the Order of Australia.
The actress, who plays the soap's first transgender character Mackenzie Hargreaves, has been given the honour alongside her mother Rebekah Robertson thanks to their work for transgender youth and parents.
Taking to Instagram, Georgie shared pictures from the special day, including some with Rebekah, writing: "What a day. I'm so honoured and overwhelmed and proud and all the feels.
"It was an honour to receive an Order of Australia today alongside my mum, and to be surrounded by people I love so dearly. It has been such a devastating year, but this was something to celebrate.
"I'm going to go and cry now," she added.
Neighbours sent their own congratulations, writing on their Instagram: "A huge congratulations to our very own @georgiestone for receiving an Order of Australia!".
Georgie, who joined the soap in 2019, was promoted to show regular last year following a hugely positive response to her character and storylines.
The actress has also collaborated with writers and producers to bring her own experiences to the show, including on a storyline earlier this year that saw a number of loved ones read from Mackenzie's diary about her journey – Georgie wrote the diary entries herself.
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
