Nearly $1 million has been raised to support a Texas teenager who was orphaned after a car crash claimed the lives of his entire family.

Adiryan Arvind, 14, lost his parents and sister on Wednesday, Aug. 14, when their car was struck by another while they were driving to the University of Texas at Dallas, according to a GoFundMe campaign started to support the teen.

Authorities said the trio were on U.S. Highway 281 around 6 a.m. local time when the 2024 Kia Telluride they were in was hit by a 2004 Cadillac CTS, per local outlet KWTX. All five people involved in the crash died at the scene.

The driver of the Telluride, 45-year-old Arvind Mani, of Leander, was identified as Adiryan’s father, while his mother, Pradeepa Arvind, 40, and sister Andril Arvind, 17, were the passengers. The two occupants of the Cadillac were also killed.

Adiryan “was unable to join” his family for the trip to Dallas, “and now he is left without his family,” according to the GoFundMe organized by Rajaraman Venkatachalam.

On Sunday, Venkatachalam halted donations to the GoFundMe campaign after more than $878,000 was raised to support Adiryan following the tragedy.

While Andril was starting her freshman year in college, Adiryan was starting his freshman year in high school, per the GoFundMe.

“Our most sincere thanks to each and every one of you for partaking in this for helping and supporting Adiryan’s future,” Venkatachalam said in an update shared to the website.

Arvind and Pradeepa “were a wonderful couple” who were “an integral part of our Austin Indian community,” according to Venkatachalam.

Andril was planning to attend UTD for computer science, added Venkatachalam, who did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

“This news has brought great sorrow to our campus and has impacted many in our community,” Hawkins continued. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Andril’s family and friends."
