NCIS: Origins Among 2 CBS Series Snagging Full-Season Orders
Two more CBS freshmen have earned big votes of confidence from the Eye Network, with prequel series NCIS: Origins and rookie comedy Poppa’s House both snagging full-season orders on Thursday.
NCIS: Origins is currently averaging 6.2 million total viewers (with Live+7 playback), ranking No. 3 among all freshmen shows (behind Matlock and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage). Poppa’s House, meanwhile, thus far is averaging 4.3 million total viewers, per Nielsen, and ranks as the fall’s No. 3 new comedy.

“NCIS: Origins has added a brilliant new dimension to the NCIS franchise with an origin story of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and a cinematic ’90s experience that features distinct characters, stories and crime solving,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, in a statement. “Poppa’s House excels with the dynamic father-son chemistry between Damon and Damon Jr. and their family-inspired stories that bring this comedy to life. These shows fit seamlessly into our Monday night lineup while resonating with viewers on CBS and Paramount+.”
The encouraging news for both series comes just over one week after Young Sheldon spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage similarly secured a full-season order at CBS, just 13 days into its run. The network’s Kathy Bates-led Matlock series has already been renewed for Season 2, making it the fall’s first new show to score a sophomore season.
NCIS: Origins stars Austin Stowell as a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played in the mothership by Mark Harmon, who also narrates the offshoot). The prequel takes place in 1991, where Gibbs starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office. Poppa’s House, starring father-son duo Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., stars the elder Wayans as a legendary talk radio host who has his point of view challenged both at work (where a new female co-host is hired) and at home (where he still finds himself parenting his adult son).
New episodes of Poppa’s House and NCIS: Origins respectively air Mondays at 8:30/7:30c and 10/9c.
