KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 — Malaysia’s Ambassador to the United States (US) Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said that any attempt to topple the government of the day will make it difficult for ambassadors to court foreign investors because the latter will have the impression that the country is unstable.

According to Astro Awani, Nazri said that it is the duty of ambassadors to help the government to convince investors and bring more investment to Malaysia.

He said that a country’s stability is a key concern for foreign investors.

“I fully support the decree of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar regarding the importance of maintaining the stability of the government.

“I am speaking in my capacity as ambassador to the US, not as a politician.

“I believe Malaysian ambassadors in other countries are also worried if there is an attempt to overthrow the government because the country will be seen as unstable, and investors will not be interested in coming to our country,” he was quoted as saying by the news portal.

Nazri also said that he has met many of the Malaysian diaspora in the US who fully support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s efforts to eliminate corruption.

He said that most want the current government to see its five-year term through to ensure stability.

“These people, even though they are abroad, still care about Malaysia’s stability.

“Everyone I met supports the prime minister’s efforts to eliminate corruption.

“In fact, some alleged that the reason why MPs want to topple the government of the day is because they are the ones who are involved in corruption cases,” he was quoted as saying.

Following that, he advised MPs to respect the unity government that was decided by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

He stressed that MPs need to prove their loyalty to the Agong by working together to maintain the stability of the country and not topple the government.

“We must remember that the current government was formed according to the Federal Constitution after no party or coalition was able to establish a government on its own.

“So, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has carried out his duties according to the Constitution by advising a unity government to be established and appointing Anwar as the prime minister.

“MPs need to prove to the people that they obey and uphold the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who wants a stable government,” he was quoted as saying by Astro Awani.

Yesterday, Sultan Ibrahim voiced his concern following persistent rumours of the government’s alleged instability despite six months having passed following the conclusion of the 15th general election (GE15).

Sultan Ibrahim decreed that the country’s people, economy, well-being and prosperity should be prioritised.
