Nationals unveil new City Connect cherry blossom uniforms, six other teams announced

The Washington Nationals know the best time to be in D.C. is cherry blossom season. The team unveiled their City Connect uniforms for 2022, which pay homage to the cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C.

The Nationals are the first of seven teams to take part in MLB's City Connect program in 2022. They'll wear the cherry blossom-inspired uniforms April 9, when they take on the New York Mets.

How will that look? We're glad you asked.

The Nationals are the first of seven teams to take part in the program in 2022. The other teams getting City Connect jerseys in 2022 — and the dates they'll be wearing those jerseys — include:

• Houston Astros: April 20
• Kansas City Royals: April 30
• Colorado Rockies: June 4
• Los Angeles Angels: June 11
• Milwaukee Brewers: June 24
• San Diego Padres: July 8

Fans hoping to see what those uniforms will look like will have to wait a little longer. MLB only revealed the Nationals' City Connect uniforms Tuesday.

Here's a closer look at the Nationals' City Connect uniforms, including the socks. It's tough to see in the player pictures above, but a cherry blossom pattern runs through the jerseys.

It's the second year MLB has partnered with Nike to create the City Connect uniforms. New Era and Stance also collaborated on the uniforms, taking care of the caps and socks.

The uniforms are meant to highlight the city in which the selected MLB team plays. The Boston Red Sox wore yellow jerseys in 2021 as a tribute to the Boston Marathon. The Chicago White Sox wore jerseys featuring "South Side" on the front, a nod to the geographical location of the team's fan base.

Last year's batch of City Connect uniforms got positive reviews from fans, so MLB and Nike have a lot to live up to the second time around. If the Nationals' cherry blossom uniforms are a taste of what's to come, fans of 2022 City Connect teams should be excited.
