Who Is Nate Bargatze? Here’s the Lowdown on SNL’s Oct. 28 Host

Nate Bargatze will make his Saturday Night Live hosting debut on Oct. 28 alongside musical guest Foo Fighters, which begs the question: Who is Nate Bargatze?

Boasting a cool 1 million followers on Instagram, the Nashville native is a stand-up comedian who gained visibility in recent years via a series of Netflix specials, including 2019’s The Tennessee Kid and 2021’s The Greatest Average American.

Earlier this year, Bargatze took his standup act to Amazon with the special Hello World, which was released on Prime Video in January.

In a 2021 profile, The Atlantic dubbed Bargatze “the nicest man in stand-up,” calling his unique brand of comedy “slow, inoffensive, even soothing.” The mag also declared him “one of the hottest acts in comedy.”

Bargatze has appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon more than a dozen times, and has credited NBC’s late-night staple with being “a huge part” of his career (watch below). He has also graced Late Night With Seth Meyers and the now-defunct Late Late Show With James Corden.

Regarding his forthcoming SNL stint, Bargatze called the gig “beyond a dream come true” in an Instagram post that followed Tuesday’s announcement.

SNL will likely be forced to continue thinking outside its traditional A-list hosting box in the coming weeks (and months?) amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
