Nanjing Mass Tests Residents for COVID-19 as Chinese City Battles Delta Variant Outbreak

The city of Nanjing in China’s Jiangsu province held mass COVID-19 testing for its nine million residents on July 25 amid an outbreak of the Delta strain of coronavirus.

Jiangsu recorded 48 new confirmed cases of coronavirus on July 27, according to national health authorities, bringing the total number of cases in the city to 155. Local news reports citing officials said the outbreak was linked to the Delta variant.

The province began mass testing residents on Wednesday, July 21, after several airport workers had tested positive to the virus, according to news reports.
