BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty has been praised by fans for her "perfect" response to a vile troll's comment about her appearance.

The journalist and TV presenter was tagged by a fan in a tweet admiring one of her recent outfits on the show, but unfortunately it attracted the attention of a cruel troll.

Commenting on the photo, the person tweeted: "Quite frankly, I'd rather someone take a cheese grater to my b***end than go near that poisonous person."

But Munchetty hit back with a humorous response as she quoted the tweet, writing: "Happy to help Shirley X"

One fan commented: "The perfect way to deal with venom."

Someone else wrote: "I don't know how you put up with so much unkindness Naga, glad you have a thick skin."

Another supporter tweeted: "These keyboard warriors are so dull - I wonder what their bosses would think? You are a legend @TVNaga01 - brilliant at what you do and all kinds of awesome."

In another compliment, a fan tweeted: "Love your intelligent reply Naga spot on. Keep doing what your doing wear what you want to wear. Real people are more interested in your mind and wisdom not your tights and stay positive respect every time sis."

Munchetty, 46, also hit back at someone else online last year who criticised her for her choice of footwear on BBC Breakfast.

The viewer tweeted: "I’m not known for my own sartorial elegance but why would anyone like Naga Munchetty feel the need to wear high-heeled shoes like these on a BBC TV breakfast news programme? Discuss..."

Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Munchetty quickly shut down the debate, replying: "Because I want to."

Among her supporters at the time was ex-Welsh rugby captain Gareth Thomas who wrote: "If I could pull em off then I would deffo wear them!!! Plus she looks amazing, plus so many other things, I’m not understanding this mans point.."
