Nadhir Nasar on boycott: I hear you and I understand

15 May - Nadhir Nasar recently took to social media to apologise for his mistakes after Malaysian netizens decided to bring the Blockout 2024 to Malaysia.

The actor, whose name was listed alongside other local artistes that netizens planned to block due to his involvement as celebrity spokesperson for several boycotted brands, clarified his stance in a long post on X, saying that he has always been one to take social issues seriously.

Stressing that his decision to work with the brands came a year ago before the crisis in Gaza took place, Nadhir stated, "My decision then was based on their genuine commitment to fostering creativity and supporting artistes like myself."

"While I understand and respect the concerns that have been brought forward, it's essential to recognise that my contractual commitments must be upheld. Attempting to terminate the contract prematurely would have significant repercussions, including financial penalties and potential legal ramifications, which would ultimately impact not only myself but also those involved in the collaboration," he expressed.

Nonetheless, the "My Famous Ex-Boyfriend" star said that he is taking the feedback from his fans seriously, and that he is committed to addressing any concerns in a transparent and constructive manner.

It also has to be noted that Nadhir has been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause amid his collaborations with boycotted brands.

The Blockout 2024 movement gained traction on social media following the MET Gala, after many expressed disgusts over celebrities showing off opulence and wealth at the event while the population in Rafah were being attacked on the same day. Many likened the situation to the movie "The Hunger Games", made worse by social media influencer Haley Kalil aka Haylee Baylee, who decided to post a video of her in a Marie Antoinette-inspired gown and saying the controversial line of "Let them eat cake."
