Nacho Figueras is opening up about working with his friend Prince Harry on their upcoming polo documentary series.
Speaking to PEOPLE at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on Saturday, Oct. 5, the professional polo player, 47, said it was an “honor” working with Harry, 40, on Netflix’s docuseries POLO, which goes behind the scenes of the sport.
“Look, to me, it's an honor to do anything with him. He's a dear friend,” Figueras tells PEOPLE. “This is more his project than it is mine. It's an honor to know that I was able to help,” he adds of the series, which premieres in December.
“And the show is not about me. It's not about him … So we've been working very hard on it and we're very excited about the outcome.”

Netflix announced the Duke of Sussex's new polo documentary series, which he is producing under his company Archewell Productions, on Sept. 9.
The streamer shared in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) that POLO “follows elite global players and offers an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced world of the sport."
On Oct. 5, Figueras also shared his best memory of filming the documentary, telling PEOPLE, “Look, everything about it. I would love for it to be a kind of, like a surprise. But what I can tell you is that me as a polo player, I think this is something that I've been waiting for my entire life,” he teases of the show.
The polo star says the docuseries aims to “introduce millions of people to what the sport is all about.”
“You know, the behind-the-scenes, kind of like what Drive to Survive did for Formula 1,” Figueras explains. “I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens … Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a, hopefully, longer series that will expose our sport to millions of people.”

Prince Harry is known to play polo for sport and at charity matches, including at a fundraiser for his co-founded charity Sentebale, which supports young people affected by poverty, inequality and HIV/AIDS in southern Africa.
In April, he played at the Royal Salute Polo Challenge and visited Lagos Polo Club on his Nigeria trip with Meghan Markle in May.
Figueras’ comments on working with Harry come weeks after he posted a tribute to his longtime friend on his 40th birthday on Sept. 15.
"Happy 40th brother. From the polo fields to all the moments in between, I’m grateful for the bond we share," he wrote on Instagram beside a photo of him and Harry together. "Here’s to many more laughs, memories and good times ahead. Love you."
Figueras and Harry met at a 2007 charity match benefiting Sentebale. The pair remained friends and have competed as teammates after Harry joined the Los Padres polo team after moving with Meghan to California in 2020.
