Mystery balloon creates more U.S.-China speculation - analyst
STORY: Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Singapore, Ja Ian Chong, said missing pieces of key information regarding China's claims about the balloon’s origins have caused further speculations between the two superpowers amid heightened tensions.
The balloon having been witnessed by the American public through social media would also have impacted the actions taken by the authorities, as well as their stance towards China in the future, he added.
Beijing on Monday (February 6) urged Washington to show restraint as the U.S. military searched for remnants of what it believes was a Chinese surveillance balloon it shot down over the Atlantic, but which China says was a civilian craft that accidentally drifted astray.
