Murder inquiry launched after body found stuffed inside suitcase in Kulai
KULAI, April 13 — The decomposing body of a woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase abandoned at the Kulai Municipal Council’s (MPKu) bus kiosk, near the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) building here, earlier this week.
Kulai police chief Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow said the authorities were alerted after receiving a call from a member of the public informing them of the discovery at 1.50pm on Tuesday.
“Police officers, together with a team from the Kulai police’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the state police contingent’s forensic unit, were immediately despatched to the scene.
“A preliminary inspection at the scene failed to determine gender, age and estimated time of death due to the advanced stage of decomposition.
“Decomposition was more than 50 per cent,” said Tok in a statement today.
Tok said the body was then sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) in Johor Baru for a post-mortem.
He said based on the findings of the HSA pathologist that were released earlier today, the body was identified as female aged 25 and above.
“Death is estimated to have occurred about two weeks ago.
“There is also an injury below the victim’s scalp. However, the cause of death is still under investigation,” he said, adding that police have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Tok also appealed to anyone who may have information on the case to contact the Kulai police or investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Sivachandran at 016-2850204.
