Mudryk tells Arsenal star that London is ‘blue’ in interview about his time at Chelsea
Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk has revealed that he jokes with Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko about the colour of London.
The Ukraine international moved to Chelsea in the January transfer window for a fee around £88.5m with Mudryk impressing at Shakhtar Donetsk over the last 18 months.
Arsenal were interested in signing him too with widespread reports that they made two bids for Mudryk before Chelsea eventually blew them out the water.
Despite not moving to Arsenal, Mudryk has had a lot of help settling in London from Zinchenko with his compatriot a “very kind guy”.
“He helped me a lot. I like him so much. We often joke about Arsenal, Chelsea and what colour London is,” Mudryk told Sky Sports.
“But I like this guy, he is a very funny and very kind guy. We spend time always [together] in a positive way.”
Asked what colour London was, Mudryk replied: “Blue.”
Mudryk was still in Ukraine when Russia’s invasion of his homeland started and the new Chelsea signing is grateful to everyone for their support since moving to England.
The Chelsea winger added: “My parents are still there in Ukraine. Everyday I call them and ask about everything, what the situation is now, how they are and everything about what is now the situation in our country.
“Their [British public] reaction, for me, is good because some people ask me about the situation in Ukraine. Some people are worrying about the situation. I am grateful to these people who help Ukraine because it means a lot.”
Mudryk, who has struggled to have an impact at Chelsea since his arrival in the winter, is part of the Ukraine squad which will face England at Wembley on Sunday and he has praised England record goalscorer Harry Kane ahead of the fixture.
He continued: “Very good quality of player. I know a little bit of him, I like the way he worked a lot to become the top scorer of all-time of England.”
Kane got his record 54th England goal as they beat Italy 2-1 in Naples earlier this week and Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate is adamant they need to back it up by beating Ukraine on Sunday.
“We have to go and get a result at Wembley now because this will be a fantastic result if we win and that’s exactly what we’ve said to the players straight after the game,” Southgate said.
“Then (on) Monday they can head off wherever they want but it is going to be hard because Ukraine have had no competitive game (on Thursday).
“We’ve got to fly, we’ve got to recover, we’ve got quite a few knocks, so we’re going to need Wembley at its most vocal and supportive on Sunday because it will give us a huge lift.
“If we can play as we did in the first half, then I am sure the fans will enjoy that but we are going to be playing against a very good team and we’ve got to get that right.”
