From co-creators and executive producers Glover (Swarm, Atlanta) and Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo), the new Mr. & Mrs. Smith stars Glover as John Smith and Maya Erskine (PEN15) as Jane Smith. The official synopsis reads as follows:
“In this version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?”
The remake was previously set to debut this month (as revealed in a Prime Day sneak peek shared in July), but was pushed to “early 2024” in September. Amazon did not provide a reason for the delay, but the postponement came at a time when both the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild were on strike, and actors and writers were forbidden from promoting their projects.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith marks Glover’s second show for Prime Video, following the well-received limited series Swarm, which bowed in March.
